Perfect Day

Walking slowly, hand in hand

Beside the gentle river Cam

On past the learnéd halls of time

And college gates where church bells chime

Through market stalls of fresh-baked bread

To corner shops where minds are fed

Along green paths of shady pine

With pause to feast on cheese and wine

Back home, the drum of sultry beat

Of music’s sway and passion’s heat

Then rest in shadows barely lit

And hugging curves of perfect fit

Too soon the day is at a close

With creamy kiss and pink-blush rose

Against the sky of fading light

A whisper: “no regrets … goodnight”
